Springfield Thunderbirds: David Ortiz Night
This project has been almost two years in the making. When I first tasked to come up with the idea of a specialty jerseys based on the idea of bringing Big Papi to western mass it was key that we capture the history of Red Sox brand and tie that into our existing Thunderbirds identity.
The boston redsox
My original plan included a lot of Red Sox inspired imagery. We had several jerseys with the Sox logo prominently featured but due to some conflict above me with MLB we were unable to pursue that path. Even though I love boomer wearing the Sox cap, and it was still an honor to get to be trusted to use such a historic teams identity.
paying tribute to Big papi
It was important for us to come up with strong primary mark to signify the guest of honor. My original ideas included a almost cartoon version of David but we ended up going with this clean and simple design featured on both the jersey and merchandise for David Ortiz Night!
I ended up coming up with about a dozen design for this particular night. I had variations using the Red Sox logo, Red Sox word mark, our 34 logo, the T-birds logo, the T-Birds Sox word mark (we ended up going with this for the jerseys). We also had planned on two distinct uniforms one for warm ups and one for the game. We ended up settling on a hybrid jersey combing the Thunderbirds, the current Sox home jersey and the 70's pull over jerseys.
All set to ... no
This was the final design all ready to go to the manufacturer before we had to pull the red sox logos. You can also see the warm up jersey featured as well. While I did like this version I'm very happy we ended up going with the T-Birds Script because I had special created the characters used in the logo!
